In Shasta County, California, Annelise Pierce is the founder of the nonprofit news outlet Shasta Scout, where she covers underreported stories in her region of Northern California.
This past March, she published a story about a music producer associated with Bethel Church, an evangelical megachurch in Redding, California, who was producing a documentary series about recalling Shasta County supervisors (“Follow along as we drain our local swamp”). From her piece:

On May 14, Twitter filed a notice of appeal with the Ninth Circuit following a decision rendered by a San Francisco, Calif. judge in favor of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The case concerns Twitter’s constitutional challenge to an investigation Paxton allegedly initiated to punish the message sharing platform for its content moderation decisions made in the wake of the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol this January.
Twitter sought to halt the allegedly retailatory investigation, but was told its suit was premature in last week’s ruling by Judge Maxine M. Chesney. The opinion and order granted Paxton’s motion to dismiss, which according to the plaintiff-appellant, effectively denied its motion for a preliminary injunction.

Groups back challenge to Marsy’s Law ruling

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – First Amendment and journalism groups want to weigh in if the Florida Supreme Court takes up a case that could help shield the identities of law enforcement officers involved in use-of-force incidents.
The Joseph L. Brechner Center for Freedom of Information at the University of Florida, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and the Society of Professional Journalists filed a notice Friday of their intent to submit a friend-of-the-court brief if the Supreme Court agrees to hear the case, which involves application of a 2018 constitutional amendment known as Marsy’s Law.
