CAPE TOWN - Eskom’s mountain of debt has been reduced by R83 billion.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan said that this meant that Eskom’s debt now stood at R401 billion, down from R484 billion.
Gordhan was delivering his budget vote speech in Parliament on Tuesday.
The minister said that managing Eskom’s debt was a key priority for the government as it tried to steer the power utility onto a sustainable path.

Funding sufficient for Transnet HQ relocation to Eastern Cape

Cape Town - The state-owned freight utility Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has set aside âsufficient fundsâ for the relocation of the institutionâs headquarters in Gauteng and the satellite office in KwaZulu-Natal.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan said this in response to parliamentary questions from DA MP Michele Clarke, who enquired about the total costs of moving Transnetâs head office from Johannesburg and Kwazulu-Natal to Port Elizabeth.
Clarke also wanted to know whether any consultation was done with the relevant sectors and staff in order to proceed with the move.
Thieves stole R250m worth of fuel from Transnet

Johannesburg - Fuel worth almost R250 million has been stolen from state-owned rail, logistics, port and pipeline company Transnet since March 2019.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan revealed the figure in a written reply to DA MP Michéle Clarke’s parliamentary questions.
According to Gordhan, in 2019/20 nearly 12 million litres of fuel worth R147m was stolen from Transnet while another 8.5 million litres valued at R102m was lost in 2020/21.
In the two years, 277 incidents of fuel theft were recorded, with 143 in 2019/20 and another 134 in 2020/21.
There were also 49 attempted theft incidents in 2019/20 and 2020/21.
