This was said by Datuk Mohd Haaziq Pillay, the lawyer representing Johor-based Raihanah Cold Storage Sdn Bhd and its two directors Rahman Sheikh Abdullah and his wife Raihanah Kasim in a defamation suit against a blogger who had allegedly accused the company of being involved in the meat cartel scandal.

Court approves Hatten Land unit s scheme of arrangement with creditors

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 7): The High Court in Melaka has approved the scheme of arrangement between MDSA Ventures Sdn Bhd a subsidiary of Singapore-listed Hatten Land Ltd, and its creditors. Judicial Commissioner Maidzura Mohammed granted a sanction order to the company, after being told that the scheme was approved by 96% of the total value of the creditors present and voting in person or by proxy at a creditors’ meeting on Dec 18. “The court grants the sanction order to approve the proposed scheme of arrangement and the debt restructuring of MDSA Ventures,” the court ruled yesterday. The scandal, which the players said happens every now and then, involves corruption at several levels and authorities investigating the issue should look at all others in the import chain. “Halal is not the issue in the meat cartel as Jakim is not in charge of imported meat. The issue is corruption, ” said Datuk Shukri Abdullah, the founder of the world’s biggest halal trade exhibition, Malaysian International Halal Showcase (Mihas).

SSM to waive fee for late filing of company statutory documents from Jan 1 to 31

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 31): The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) is waiving the fee for late filing of company statutory documents, effective until Jan 31.  The commission, in a statement today, said the fee is waived to reduce the impact of companies affected by the temporary closure of the Malaysia Business Reporting System (MBRS) for maintenance purposes until Feb 28. “SSM understands the difficulties faced and requests customers to give way to maintenance work on the MBRS system to be completed. Maintenance work on the MBRS system does not prevent access by customers to the latest company information that is updated through the MyCoID system, it said.
