One of the pioneering architecture departments in India, the Department of Architecture here was conceived for ensuring a holistic integration of the development of science and technology. This architecture department was the first of its kind in the IIT system in 1952 with the undergraduate course in architecture. Now it offers post-graduate and even doctoral degrees in the field. Students need to qualify JEE Advanced AAT examination for admission to this course.

Bihar has a long history of organized education. Once upon a time, Bihar was a leading place in terms of higher education. Nalanda and Vikramshila University was the two most important centres for learning in India. Nalanda University being the focal point handled all branches including (Art, Architecture, Painting, Logic, Grammar, Philosophy, Astronomy, Literature, Buddhism, Hinduism, Arthashastra (Economics & Politics), Law, and Medicine, Arithmetic, Theology, Law, Metaphysics, Ethics) and housed up to 10,000 students at its peak.
Students from China, Korea, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia and from all the regions of India came to Nalanda and Vikramshila uinversities to study.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the Visva-Bharati University Convocation via virtual mode. The convocation ceremony was attended by the Governor of West Bengal and Rector of Visva-Bharati, Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, and Union MoS for Education Sanjay Dhotre.
This year in the convocation a total of 2,535 students received their respective degrees. The convocation can be watched by students and others through the official Twitter handle of the Education Minister and the Prime Minister. The convocation was also covered by Doordarshan as well.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually took part in the convocation programme of Visva-Bharati on Friday. PM Modi addressed the convocation via video conferencing. The prime minister is the chancellor of the unitary university located in West Bengal s Birbhum district.Â
Governor of West Bengal and Rector of Visva-Bharati, Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, and Union MoS for Education Sanjay Dhotre also attended the convocation in person, the university.
The convocation started at Amra Kunja (the Mango grove) in Santiniketan campus and continued for two-and-a-half hours.
