MSF to pilot mentoring programme to support at-risk youths this year
SINGAPORE The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) will pilot a mentoring programme to support at-risk youths this year, as well as expand efforts to help children living in rental flats and couples with marital issues.
The mentoring programme expects to target 100 youths over two years, starting first with Institute of Technical Education (ITE) students who leave school prematurely and will be launched in the fourth quarter of this year, said Parliament Secretary for MSF Eric Chua on Friday (5 March) in Parliament during the ministry s Committee of Supply debate.

SINGAPORE: Ten new centres will provide support for couples and families facing early signs of stress, announced Minister of State for Social and Family Development Sun Xueling on Friday (Mar 5).
Speaking at the Ministry of Social and Family Development s (MSF) Committee of Supply debate, Ms Sun said that MSF will establish the Strengthening Families Programme @ Family Service Centres (SFP@FSCs) across Singapore over the next three years, following a pilot in 2019.

The SFP@FSCs will bring together programmes and support services for marriage and divorce, she said. They will also have family counselling services to mend relationship fissures early .

1. Cabinet has agreed to the introduction of the Mental Health Care (Amendment) Bill into the National Assembly. The main object of the Bill is to amend the Mental Health Care Act to provide that the duty, which is mainly a medical duty, of reviewing mental patients who are suspected of having committed a criminal offence or who are in the custody of the police or who are detainees in a reform institution referred to in the Reform Institutions Act shall be performed by the Managerial Committee instead of the Mental Health Commission.
