After winning the Munster Technological University s (MTU) competition to create a new piece of music to mark the official foundation of the university, Blarney man Daniel Murphy can add a new title to his CV: MTU s first composer laureate.
Daniel graduated top of his class, the BA in Popular Music, in 2019 and has been busy as a freelance arranger and producer since then. Daniel attended Cork School of Music as a schoolboy, studying drums with Stephen Kelly. Switching to keyboards with David Hayes for his BAPM major, he also studied arranging with Cormac McCarthy.
The MTU Composition Competition was open to graduates of CIT and IT Tralee, which recently merged to form the MTU, and attracted a fantastic entry of 13 high-quality scores and electronic mock-ups.
