Letters of 22 December 2020: Negligence threatens our virus success

Letters of 22 December 2020: Negligence threatens our virus success Dec 22, 2020 – 12.01am Share Australians paid a massive price to effectively eliminate COVID-19. It will take decades to repay the debt. This was an investment to save lives and allow the economy to recover. The NSW government had plenty of time to devise plans and implement effective controls for passengers and flight crew arriving from overseas. This was clearly going to be the prime source of any recontamination. We will pay a heavy price for the Sydney northern beaches COVID-19 outbreak.  Nick Moir Which government departments failed? Who are the responsible politicians? To what extent are the airlines culpable?

Public Servants in Victoria Told Not To Say Husband or Wife in Inclusive Language Guide

Public Servants in Victoria Told Not To Say ‘Husband’ or ‘Wife’ in Inclusive Language Guide The Andrew’s state government has told Victorianpublic servants to avoid terms such as “wife,” “husband,” “madam” or “sir” when working with LGBTIQ+ people. Judges will also move towards using gender-neutral terms such as “citizen,” instead of traditional terms such as “mister.” The 11-page document (pdf) published this week outlines how public servants are not to “exclude” and “devalue” non-heterosexual people and their relationships by assuming a person’s gender. The documents adds that while most men use “he” and most women use “she,” some people use gender-neutral pronouns like “they/them.”

It s reigning men in the Morrison government — with no let-up in sight

Liberal MPs Tim Wilson and Jason Falinski (Image: AAP/Mick Tsikas) It’s that time again, when the politico-commentator complex kicks back to reflect on how the year has gone. Who were the winners? Who were the losers? Albo out? Plibersek in? Who will be rewarded in any government reshuffle for 2021? When it comes to the Morrison government, it’s steady as she or is that he? goes, with the future again looking decidedly male. Writing in The Australian, the uber-connected conservative Janet Albrechtsen has nominated four Liberals, dubbed “the Aussie squad”, as the ones to watch for 2021. They are Victorian Liberals Tim Wilson and James Paterson, and NSW Liberals Andrew Bragg and Jason Falinski. Wilson is 40. Paterson is 33. Bragg is 36. Falinski is 50.

Who is compulsory super benefitting: ordinary Australians or the top end of town?

Mainstream Australians are being failed by the political class as the gap between two Australias continues to widen. This failure is exemplified by a superannuation system that siphons money to the financial sector and political class and actively prevents mainstream Australians from achieving the Australian way of life.    The legislated increase of forced super contributions from the current rate of 9.5% to 12% of wages will in many cases work against the financial interests of Australians, both now and in retirement. Forced super contributions come directly at the expense of savings outside of super that can be put towards a house deposit or used to reduce debt. Increasing the compulsory rate will only put the aspiration of homeownership and financial security further out of reach of an increasing proportion of the population.
