ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. A team of veteran energy developers is putting the building blocks in place to potentially convert San Juan County into a “hydrogen hub” to supply clean electricity to western utilities, plus non-carbon fuel for vehicles and industrial processes.
Libertad Power Project LLC says it could have its first hydrogen-fueled generating station up and running in the Farmington area by 2024 – far faster than any other commercial project currently under development in the U.S. And once operating, the power plant would provide the initial anchor for building out a broad production-and-storage center that could attract industrial partners to condense and liquify Libertad’s Made-in-New-Mexico hydrogen for transport to customers across the nation.

GOVERNMENTS must consider all available technologies, including advances in âclean coal,â in their strategies for achieving net-zero emissions, a UK-based coal industry group said last week.
âOur focus has to be on… deploying the best-available clean technologies, whatever they might be, including clean coal technologies, so that they can actually play their part in (reaching) our overall global community goal of net zero,â World Coal Association (WCA) Chief Executive Officer Michelle M. Manook told
BusinessWorld in a video call on May 17.
âIt shouldnât be that we dismiss coal outright. We need to look at coal in terms of, how it can actually position itself for the next generation of clean, efficient plants,â she added.
Facebook touts impact of its renewable energy projects in New Mexico
Social media giant Facebook touted its renewable energy projects across the country in a recent report, citing the impact of a facility in New Mexico the surrounding local community.
Facebook’s U.S. Renewable Impact Study was released Wednesday to show how the company’s initiatives in wind and solar power benefited 10 states: New Mexico, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Virginia – states identified, per the report, as having growing markets for low-carbon energy.
In 2011, Facebook began its efforts to support data centers across the country completely using renewable energy, bringing 55 new solar and wind projects to date and adding 5,763 megawatts (MW) of “clean electricity” to the U.S. grid.
