LONGi Solar pushes n-type TOPCon cell to record 25 09% conversion efficiency

LONGi Solar pushes n-type TOPCon cell to record 25.09% conversion efficiency LONGi Solar’s module shipments for 2020 reached a record 24.53GW. Image: LONGi Solar. LONGi Solar has set a new record conversion efficiency for an n-type monocrystalline bifacial TOPCon cell of 25.09%. The company said the achievement, independently verified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin, represents the first time that the efficiency of a TOPCon cell based on a commercial size silicon wafer has exceeded 25%.  The announcement comes months after JinkoSolar set a conversion efficiency record of 24.90% for its N-type TOPCon monocrystalline silicon solar cell. “We are aiming to promote continuous upgrading of the PV industry, achieving higher efficiency and more sustainability,” said Li Hua, vice president and head of the cell R&D center of LONGi Solar, adding: “Improving cell conversion efficiency is the main channel for PV technology development.”

Transparent Nanolayers For More Solar Power: Silicon Solar Cells With More Than 26% Efficiency

Posted on April 23, 2021 | Views: 58 cwebb2021-04-22T20:11:05-07:00 by Forschungszentrum Juelich: Nanostructured material and a new cell design pave the way for the production of silicon solar cells with more than 26 percent efficiency… There is no cheaper way to generate electricity today than with the sun. Power plants are currently being built in sunny locations that will supply solar electricity for less than two cents per kilowatt hour. Solar cells available on the market based on crystalline silicon make this possible with efficiencies of up to 23 percent. Therefore they hold a global market share of around 95 percent. With even higher efficiencies of more than 26 percent, costs could fall further. An international working group led by photovoltaics researchers from Forschungszentrum Jülich now plan to reach this goal with a nanostructured, transparent material for the front of solar cells and a sophisticated design. The scientists report on their success of man
