BERLIN, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) Germany s labor market barometer fell 0.4 points from the previous month to 100.2 in January, the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) announced on Wednesday.
Although this was the first significant decline since the first COVID-19 lockdown last spring, the indicator still remained in positive territory, noted the research institute of Germany s Federal Employment Agency (BA). Employment agencies expect the overall labor market to be able to withstand an extended lockdown, said Enzo Weber, head of the IAB research department, in a statement.
Due to high COVID-19 infection rates, Germany entered a second lockdown which includes closures of non-essential shops, bars, restaurants and leisure facilities. The lockdown was recently extended until mid-February.
