The Centre must supply Maharashtra with more vaccine doses, especially those of Covaxin, if the second shot for citizens above 45 years was to be completed on time, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Friday.
He said that if adequate vials were not forthcoming from the Centre soon, then vaccines meant for the 18-44 age-group would have to be diverted to complete the second dose for senior citizens.

Maharashtra government has placed an order of procuring 18.5 lakh Covid-19 vaccines following which the pace of vaccination drive will increase, said State Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday. Tope also said the main focus is to speed up the vaccination drive by inoculating more people in the age group of 18 to 44 years.
According to the data shared by the state health department, 1.65 crore of the total 3 crore population above 45 years of age have been vaccinated since the mass innouculation drive started, which means almost 45 per cent of the vulnerable population in those age brackets have been covered. Moreover, till now one lakh registered beneficiaries between 18 to 44 years have been vaccinated since May 1.

With Maharashtra reporting an average of 60,000 new COVID-19 cases and 500 deaths each day, the State government on Thursday decided to extend till May 15 the lockdown-like restrictions in force under the ‘Break the Chain’ campaign.
Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte issued an order, under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, and the Disaster Management Act, 2005, extending all curbs imposed under the orders of April 13 and 21 “till 7 a.m. on May 15”.

Amid the shortage of medical-grade oxygen in Maharashtra, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Friday said he does not want any obstruction in transporting oxygen from other states and want them to be airlifted by the Air Force. We do not want any obstruction in transporting oxygen from other states. If the filled tanker cannot be airlift, then the empty tanker should be airlifted by the Air Force, Maharashtra Health Minister told media persons.
