The Ekiti State government has disclosed its plan to invest the sum of N270 million to provide free health services for some citizens under the State Health Insurance Scheme(SHIS).
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, said an aggregate of 20,000 individuals, ranging from pregnant women, children, poor and aged persons, will be qualified for the scheme.
The Commissioner said this at the palace of the Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu on Thursday, during an interactive session on the plans of the state government to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
The Commissioner said the programme is meant to ensure improved healthcare delivery, longer life expectancy, free healthcare services and prevention of untimely deaths among the citizens.
COVID-19: Justice Binta Nyako tests positive

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja, has tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus disease.
Justice Nyako had on Jan. 28, attended the valedictory court session held at the Ukeje Hall in honour of Late Justice Ibrahim Watila who passed away after a brief illness last weekend before her test results came out positive.
NAN reports that a source in the court told newsmen that the judge tested positive for the virus after undergoing a routine check.
According to the source, the Justice had also gone into isolation to receive proper medical care.
COVID-19: Ekiti govt sensitizes residents on vaccination

The Ekiti State government has urged residents not to be apprehensive of taking the COVID-19 vaccine when it arrives in the state.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani stated this at a community sensitization programme organized by the state Ministry of Health and Human Services and the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency in Oye-Ekiti.
Dr. Oyebanji noted that the community engagement programme was to let the citizens at the grassroots know the efforts of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi led administration in the health sector as well as getting feedback from the local communities.

The federal government says it has commenced an Alternative School Programme (ASP) to tackle out of school children.
It would be recalled that in January, President Muhamadu Buhari inaugurated the 18-member Presidential Steering Committee on Alternate School Programme, ASP, co-chaired by the Ministers of Humanitarian Affairs and Education
The announcement of the commencement of the programme was made on the official Twitter handle of the President on Wednesday.
Buhari said the programme will target delivering a limited scope of subjects – Mathematics, English Language, Basic Sciences and Social Studies to children with limited access.
“We have just commenced work on an Alternate School Programme (ASP) as a special education initiative targeting out-of-school children nationwide. We must and will ensure that no Nigerian child is left behind in terms of appropriate basic education.
Obiano shuns functions, writes clerics on rising COVID-19 cases

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has been shunning major functions due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.
A government official, who disclosed this to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the governor had been in his Aguleri country home in the Anambra East Local Government Area of the state since Christmas.
The source said, “We have an average of 40 cases weekly and they continue to increase because those infected are infecting others; our people are not cooperating. Because of that, the governor has been absent at major functions.”
