Winners have emerged in the seventh Lafarge Africa National Essay Competition in Nigeria with the theme ‘Building the Nigeria of my dreams’. The competition, open to pupils aged 9 –13 in public primary and secondary schools in the junior and intermediate categories opened for entries on the 04 December 2020 until the 15 January 2021. Sixteen hundred participants from all the thirty-six states in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, enrolled for the competition.
Miss Ewaade Adebowale of Alapere Primary School, Alapere-Lagos, who emerged as the overall winner in the Junior category was awarded a cash prize of N1.5 million in the Diamond category, while Zainab Saliu of Ummul Khair Model School, Lagos, and Emmanuel Somefun of Community Nursery & Primary School, Magodo Lagos, won N1 million and N750 000 in the Gold and Silver categories respectively. Since coming into office about two years ago, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe had made it categorically clear that the situation in the education sector in the State, particularly at the basic level, was unacceptable and that his administration would do everything necessary to fix the rot inherent in the sector, which was ravaged by inadequate infrastructure, a large number of out-of-school children, the absence of instructional materials and basic facilities, as well as a teaching workforce that is poorly trained and ill-motivated.

The administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State said it has carried out 1,355 verifiable projects in various primary and secondary schools across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, under the State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) and Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), in line with its vision to improve the learning condition of the students.
The state government disclosed that besides recruiting 7,030 primary and secondary school teachers, it procured and distributed over 48,000 classroom furniture and other learning tools for school children and their teachers across the state.
The administration of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State said it has carried out 1,355 verifiable projects in various primary and secondary schools across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, under the State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) and Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), in line with its vision to improve the learning condition of the students.
The state government disclosed that besides recruiting 7,030 primary and secondary school teachers, it procured and distributed over 48,000 classroom furniture and other learning tools for school children and their teachers across the state.
The Ugwuanyi administration also revealed that it supplied and installed computers to 490 primary and secondary schools; science equipment to 151 secondary schools, and constructed and renovated classroom blocks, offices and hostels, among others, under PPSMB.
