Oklahoma Dept of Education allocates $49 million

KOAM March 5, 2021 5:15 PM Site staff Release from the State of Oklahoma Department of Education: OKLAHOMA CITY (March 5, 2021) – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister has announced the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) is allocating $49 million in federal relief dollars to 88 Oklahoma school districts that had received limited funds under Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) II. The funds are part of the set-aside ESSER II dollars that had been allocated to the OSDE. “These recipients had received the least amount of federal aid but, like all public school districts throughout our state, are struggling with financial burdens exacerbated by the pandemic,” said Hofmeister. “These additional foundational dollars will help strengthen their ability to meet the many challenges posed by COVID-19.”

Norman Public Schools learning coach Jessica Eschbach is the 2021 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. Oklahoma State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister announced the award Thursday in a virtual ceremony.  In a video, Eschbach recognized her fellow teachers for their hard work over the past year and reminded them there’s much more ahead. This pandemic and this year has shown us that there are some inequities that we can face head-on and make sure that every student in the state of Oklahoma is getting access to the best educational opportunities that we have to offer. Our students are going to be our future, Eschbach said.

State Superintendent Hofmeister Talks With Students On COVID-19 Pandemic

Wednesday, January 27th 2021, 6:14 am By: Caleb Califano Oklahoma State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister had the chance to talk to students on her advisory council from across the state on topics like mental health, college prep, and teacher concerns. Hofmeister says these students will be remembered for living through the pandemic, and people will ask them about their experiences for years to come. She then opened the floor to the students. Kaden Casteel from Stillwater Public Schools talked about how teachers have had to adapt to the pandemic saying in part, Just because the format has changed, doesn t mean teacher effort has changed. Teachers are struggling just as much as we are.
