Louisiana lawmakers make bold predictions for Legislative Session
BATON ROUGE Louisiana lawmakers opened their 2021 Regular Legislative Session here Monday primed for a 60-day sprint to the finish.
There are no budget threats this year to hospitals, colleges, TOPS or other popular programs, thanks to better than expected revenue and an infusion of federal COVID dollars, but that doesn t mean the session will lack drama.
Lawmakers in the House and Senate predicted what they believe will be the surprises of the session during interviews with USA Today Network Monday.

Early voting begins April 10 through 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except on Sundays. Citizens who want to vote early may do so in person at the parish Registrar of Voters Office or at other designated locations, according to the secretary of state s office. Voters are encouraged to utilize Louisiana’s award-winning, free smartphone app, GeauxVote Mobile, to locate parish early voting locations, Election Day voting site, or view their sample ballot. GeauxBot, the virtual voter assistant, is also available to access pertinent election information such as registration deadlines, election dates, polling locations and hours. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin has announced the formation of the Louisiana Commission on Election Integrity and Voting. Ardoin says the bipartisan panel will discuss ways to make sure voters have confidence in Louisiana elections and how to combat voter fatigue.
“And then of course we want to see how we can improve the voting experience during early voting and election day,” said Ardoin.
Ardoin says the commission will look at all aspects of voting and the goal is to enhance the confidence in Louisiana’s election process.
“Look at ways to improve our absentee ballot process if there are any ways to improve it, looking at issues of just general experience of voters, do we need more early voting sites,” said Ardoin.
