(Bloomberg) Armeniaâs acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said heâs asked Russian President Vladimir Putin for military assistance to end a deepening border dispute with Azerbaijan, raising fears of a renewed conflict.
(Bloomberg) Armeniaâs acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said heâs asked Russian President Vladimir Putin for military assistance to end a deepening border dispute with Azerbaijan, raising fears of a renewed conflict.
âI appealed to President Putin for assistance to Armenia including military,â after Azerbaijan failed to withdraw an estimated 250 troops from the southern Armenian province of Syunik, Pashinyan told lawnakers in the capital, Yerevan, on Friday. Negotiations with Azerbaijani officials to try to end the standoff would also continue on Saturday, he said.

The United States has revoked the general license that had effectively suspended sanctions and authorized transactions with nine Belarusian state-owned enterprises. In a statement, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the punitive move was a “consequence of the Belarusian authorities’ flagrant disregard for human rights.”

He said delaying the decision on the evictions of Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and rerouting the Jerusalem Day parade were appreciated by Washington, but more needed to be done.
Mr Al Safadi, whose country is custodian of Haram Al Sharif, said: “Jerusalem is a red line and maintaining peace and stability is key.”
