Almost two weeks after the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) recommended banks be allowed to reduce business hours and operate with limited staff, anxiety levels run high among banks employees with the Telangana government yet to give approval for the measures.

The business hours of banks in the State have been reduced from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from May 4 to 9. Staff will work till 2 p.m. for the bank’s internal work.
The change is based on a decision of the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) sub-committee meeting with the Reserve Bank of India, member banks, and other stakeholders here on Thursday and as per government’s directive to tighten curbs to contain the second wave of COVID-19.

The State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) has said that business hours for the bank branches in the State will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In view of the second wave of COVID-19 and sudden surge in the number of new cases in the State, the SLBC said it was issuing fresh guidelines after due consultation with the stakeholders and the State government, which will be effective from April 26 to 30.
Administrative, zonal, regional offices and back offices and so on where the staff did not have direct contact with the public shall function as per normal working hours, it said in a communication to all member banks in the State.

From Thursday until May 15, banks in Uttar Pradesh will be open for customers for only four hours on working days. The banks will be open from 10 AM to 2 PM.
A decision to this effect was taken in view of the surge in Covid cases at a meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) held via video conferencing on Wednesday. SLBC officials said banks will remain open for internal work till 4 PM.

A decision to this effect was taken in view of the surge in Covid cases at a meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) held via video conferencing on Wednesday.
The United Forum of Banks Union spokesperson, Anil Tiwari, said: The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to protect bank employees. Only 50 per cent of the staff will work daily on a rotation basis. The new rule will be implemented in all public and private banks from Thursday.
