Plans To Renovate Historic Moores Park Pool In Lansing Move Forward

The pool is on the National Register of Historic Places and was designed by Lansing city engineer, Wesley Bintz. Dale Schrader is on the executive committee for the group, Friends of Moores Park Pool and is the president of Preservation Lansing. WKAR’s Sophia Saliby spoke with him about what’s next for the pool. Interview Highlights On Why The Pool Should Be Preserved It ll celebrate its 100th year anniversary next year, and Wesley Bintz was a Lansing city resident [and] city engineer. He went on to start his own company and built over 130 of these pools, these above ground signature pools around the country. And there s only a handful of them left, and Moores Park Pool is the oldest surviving Wesley Bintz swimming pool in the United States.

New Apartment Building Planned For Former Buffalo Public School

A project reinventing a former Buffalo public school is finally getting off the ground. The Buffalo News reports the conversion of the former Lincoln Academy into affordable housing is back on the table after four years of delays. The former Buffalo Public School 44, located at 1349 Broadway, is looking to be the new location of over 60 apartments housing that will be affordable for those earning no more than 60% of the area median income, according to developers. As well, 33 of the proposed units are being set aside for victims of domestic violence and would also receive services from Catholic Charities, according to the Buffalo News.

Still no information on multiple ancient burials at Camp Blaz Anumita Kaur Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz, when contacted last month for a report on the issue, stated: Given the ongoing nature of work, we defer to the (State Historic Preservation Office) to deem it appropriate to publicly release preliminary information.   The Vigilance Committee and Sen. Telena Nelson s office sent records requests to the preservation office last month after the Pacific Daily News reported there are more ancient burials at the new Marine Corps base under construction in Dededo. Nelson chairs the Guam Legislature s committee overseeing preservation. The office rejected both requests, citing the National Historic Preservation Act  54 U.S.C. §307103  and said the Department of Defense made the determination the information cannot be disclosed.
