Hatch and Kearsley descendants reflect on 100-year history of Victor houseÂ
Sometimes the best part of publishing an article in the newspaper is the ensuing conversation. I knew Iâd hear about the front page story âOld Kearsley house is slated for demolitionâ but didnât expect the treasure trove of knowledge and historical materials that would surface as a result.
First, itâs important to note that I didnât get the facts right on the stone house in Victor during my preliminary research. After the paper came out I learned from Nita Kearsley Hunter, who grew up in the house and has extensive knowledge of her ancestors, that it was built earlier than records indicated, in 1918-19 by Carlos Marion Hatch, a very well-known figure in the valley and in eastern Idaho.

Annexation is the topic of several items the Greenville City Council is scheduled tp tackle today during its 6 p.m. virtual meeting.
Pitt County government is seeking a waiver that will allow a Stantonsburg Road neighborhood to receive sewer service without the required annexation. Public hearings are also scheduled for the annexation requests of two property owners in southwest Greenville.
The council also will hear a report on the results of the financial audit for fiscal year 2019-20.
Homes in Candlewick neighborhood, located about four miles west of Greenville, have struggled with failing septic systems for years. Pitt Countyâs Planning and Development Services office started working with the homeowners to secure grant dollars that install infrastructure and allow the neighborhood to connect with the Greenville Utilities service.
