The Trips We Want to Take First

The Trips We Want to Take First CNT Editors If there s one way to ease the monotony of being unable to travel right now, it s by dreaming about the days when we can again. For some of us, it s a fantasy as simple as driving a few hours away for a long-awaited family reunion; for others, it s flying to the other side of the world in search of a completely new experience, a Trans-Siberian train journey perhaps, or a road trip through southern Japan. In search of some much-needed travel inspiration, we tapped five of our editors to find out the places they ve pinned on the map both for later this year and beyond.

Malmaison in the sky - The Magazine Antiques

Malmaison in the sky Malmaison is familiar to many as the château of the Empress Josephine in Rueil-Malmaison, eight miles west of Paris. In 1978, though, Malmaison moved to New York figuratively speaking in the form of Roger Prigent’s fabled Malmaison Antiques, which introduced French Empire furnishings of the highest quality to the United States. An insatiable yet discerning collector who refers to Josephine as “the first lady of the world” and once bought a white Cadillac just because he liked the radio, even though he does not drive, Prigent has led a singularly atypical life. A vital lesson the pandemic has taught us all is the value of human interaction

SHARE Human interaction. That is what most of us have missed in this difficult year of 2020. Measures to limit the devastation of the coronavirus pandemic mandated lockdown restrictions and curfews around the world, a rarity in a time of peace. Being cut off from loved ones for long durations of time, without an end in sight, has taken a toll on people, except for the rare few fortunate enough to live in countries that have overcome Covid-19, or for the unfortunate many who have neither the space nor the luxury to self-isolate. Those who go to their work places do so wearing masks and keeping a safe physical distance from colleagues, making bonding much more difficult.
