A ROAD in Southend is closed after reports of a crash between a bus and pedestrian. An air ambulance is attending the scene of the crash in East Street, Southend, which is now closed in both directions. Essex Travel News say the incident happened near the junction with the A127, and the road is closed between the A127 and Station Approach near the Railway Tavern Pub. It is not known if there have been any serious injuries. Delays are building in the area and the road could be closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Essex Police and the East of England Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.

The High Street will be off limits from its junction with Station Approach to its link-up with the A129 London Road. Market Road, meanwhile, cannot be entered from its junction with the High Street. The new restrictions, which are described as an experiment, will apply every Saturday between 5am and 6pm. The regulations are set to come into force from May 8 and are due to last for a maximum of 18 months.
