Minister Pippa Hackett has described her first six months in Government as challenging but very productive.
“The Green Party entered Government at a very difficult time, facing the crises of Covid and Brexit, as well as the climate and biodiversity emergency,” she says. “However, there is an acute awareness that we need to make changes – something the Greens have been saying for years. We want to create an economy that is green, sustainable and circular.”
The Green Party has seven ministers across a number of departments.
Waverider Buoy Research Project to Measure How Extreme Storms & Wave Heights will Impact the Coast

A research project led by coastal and ocean scientists in NUI Galway and the Marine Institute involves the deployment of a combination of smart buoys and time-lapse imaging to measure storm impacts and support the development of coastal flood and erosion defences.
The project, Brandon Bay on the Dingle Peninsula, Co Kerry, involves:
A new waverider buoy provided by Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland to measure wave height, wave direction, wave period, surface currents, and water temperature as well as storm impact
Greencoat Renewables to buy Cavan and Offaly wind farms for €123 million
It has been announced this week that Greencoat Renewables is set to buy two wind farms in counties Cavan and Offaly for €123 million.
Greencoat Renewables, the renewable infrastructure company invested in euro-denominated assets, will acquire Taghart wind farm in Co. Cavan and Cloghan wind farm in Co. Offaly, from Statkraft, Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy.
Construction of the wind farms is scheduled to begin soon, with the acquisition due for completion once each wind farm is fully operational, expected in late 2022.
Statkraft will manage the construction of each wind farm and will continue to provide trading and operational management services for the wind farms once operational.
