A report recently revealed that Pakistan witnessed a rise in crimes against children and eight kids were abused every day in the country in 2020.

A report ‘Cruel numbers of 2020’ recently revealed that Pakistan witnessed a rise in crimes against children and eight kids were abused every day in the country in one form or another in 2020. According to ANI, the report, which is a compilation of statistics on crimes against children, said that children in Pakistan witnessed sexual abuse, abduction and child marriages. The report was compiled by Sahil, which is an organisation focused on child protection, and was based on cases reported in 84 national and regional newspapers in 2020.

He said this while witnessing a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding among Young Parliamentary Forum, Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services and Sustainable Social Development Organization at the Parliament House in Islamabad today (Friday).

Report on violence against women launched

Islamabad: The cases of violence against women and rape in Pakistan were doubled in the last six months of 2020 as compared to the first six months of the year. Similarly, the number of child abuse cases reported three times more in second half compared to first half of 2020. The province of Punjab has reported maximum cases of child abuse followed by Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The alarming statistics were revealed on Monday in a report titled “Tracking Numbers: State of Violence Against Women and Children in Pakistan” launched on the occasion of International Women Day by Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO).
