The ACD s role
The ACD has ultimate regulatory responsibility for a fund, acting as an independent steward protecting the interests of investors. It also oversees the activity of the investment manager to ensure the fund is run in accordance with its stated objectives.
We believe that the ACD should ensure that the approach taken evolves over time, adapting to long-term shifts in investment management practice, the underlying investment universe and regulation. One of the most pronounced changes relates to responsible investing and given the explosion of interest around ESG, that should now be a top priority for ACDs.
From our perspective, by recently becoming a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI), our ACD and, in turn, the Horizon by Embark Multi-Asset fund range, has committed to incorporating ESG factors into our investment process.
