Webinar on enabling provincial sales tax regime

Islamabad:Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) Zain Sahi, Chairperson has said that due to high rates of taxes, critical fiscal incentives were introduced including reduction in rates in Punjab.
Mr Sahi was speaking at a webinar on ‘Towards a more innovative, effective and enabling provincial sales tax regime’ jointly organised by Sustainable Development Policy Institute and Sub National Governance here on Saturday.
Mr Sahi said that data from external sources was needed to identify taxpayers outside tax net but data analysis capabilities in the public sector also needed improvements. Therefore, PRA, he said, was willing to share its data with others government entities on reciprocal basis.

ISLAMABAD: Improvement in tax collection by provinces is critically important to ensure sustainable investments for human resource development in the country, experts agreed.
They were addressing a webinar titled ‘towards a more innovative, effective and enabling provincial sales tax regime’, jointly organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and Sub National Governance (SNG).
Vaqar Ahmed, joint executive director of SDPI said revenues of provinces must grow by almost 20 percent per annum in the medium term to sustain investments in human development and enable infrastructure development.
“This target can be achieved through having and using better data and evidence on tax avoidance and evasion and a structured sector-specific dialogue with private sector,” Ahmed said.
Watchdog needed to protect animals

Islamabad:Dr Wajiha Javed, representing, Rabies Free Pakistan has called for a multi-sectoral approach to sensitise the society about the animals’ rights.
Dr Wajiha was addressing a webinar on ‘Plight of street animals in Pakistan: state of animal rights and a need for legislation’ organised by Sustainable Development Policy Institute. Dr Wajiha said that instead of condoning dogs, we need to vaccinate the dogs for rabies. Besides, the dogs’ population could be controlled in a more humane way, instead of killing them or poisoning them.
The provincial and district governments need to work with the animal protection organisations to treat the rabies-infected dogs and scientifically control their population, she said highlighting the need to create awareness among people through textbooks by including lessons showing compassion towards animals.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday directed to take all necessary steps to increase exports on priority basis.
Chairing the weekly review meeting of priority sectors in Islamabad on Thursday, he called for the formulation of a comprehensive action plan to increase the exports of valuable items at large level.
In the review meeting on economic outreach, the Prime Minister was briefed in detail about the steps taken to increase the export capacity.
