P25-M livelihood aid given to internally displaced families

BUTUAN CITY, May 26 - A total of Php25,000,000 livelihood grants have been distributed to some 1,259 internally displaced families in the Caraga region by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office Caraga through the agency s Sustainable Livelihood Program.
The livelihood assistance, amounting to Php20,000 per family, serves as start-up capital to rehabilitate the families existing small businesses or finance a new livelihood project. Through this intervention, the DSWD-SLP aims to help the families have a stable income and get back on their feet after being displaced due to various reasons such as fire and earthquake incidents, road widening activities, and typhoons.

This was after the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with 38 local government units (LGUs) from 12 regions for the institutionalization of the YBP implementation in their respective areas.
“With the forging of the agreement, the DSWD commits to provide the LGUs with technical assistance and resource augmentation in order to assist them in instituting the YBP to address the needs of the RPWUDs in their localities. Part of the technical assistance is the conduct of orientation, consultation, and various trainings for the YBP program implementers,” the DSWD said in a statement.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided more than P28.3 million worth of relief aid and more than P327.7 million worth of livelihood assistance in the National Capital Region (NCR)-plus.
The DSWD reported that it has distributed 8,964 family food packs (FFPs) amounting to more than P28.3 million as part of its relief augmentation support to the local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal.
The agency said it “worked closely with LGUs to ensure a well-coordinated response for the provision of food assistance to residents” in areas placed under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from March 29 to April 4.
April 20, 2021 THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) denied reports that it had coerced some of the beneficiaries of the Livelihood Assistance Grant (LAG) in sharing their benefits.
In a statement Tuesday, April 20, Evangeline Feleco, regional director for administration of DSWD-Western Visayas, said they received reports that at least two beneficiaries in Zarraga, Iloilo have been allegedly coerced to set up kiosks.
The DSWD, through the LAG, has released P138.15 million to 13,647 qualified beneficiaries in Western Visayas as of March this year. It was given as recovery interventions for low income families.
Each recipient can receive up to a maximum of P15,000 grant depending on the project and assessment of the livelihood technical working group of the local government unit (LGU).
