Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers says "certainty" is the important "missing ingredient" in the government's energy policy.
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell revealed the Morrison government could be left "high and dry" over a demand the private sector build a new gas-fired power plant in the NSW Hunter Region, or else it would intervene.
"The reason we don't have that certainty is that the prime minister makes all sorts of announcements on the run . they're at war with the state governments at different times . there are hints the government might get involved in building power stations themselves," he said.
"All of these things are a recipe for energy market uncertainty and that's what's holding back the investment that we need to get cheaper and cleaner energy into the system."
Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers has called for JobKeeper to be extended beyond the slated March end-date to industries most-affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as the government considers targetted financial support for the tourism sector.
"We've made it really clear for some time as we've gone about this constructively, trying to help the government get to the right policy conclusions, is that we want to see support targetted to areas that need it most," he said.
