Feds OK 5,000-well project
DOUGLAS (WNE) â After six years of sometimes controversial debating, studying and protracted periods of waiting, the Bureau of Land Management released its highly anticipated decision regarding the Converse County Oil & Gas Project with a resounding yes.Â
BLMâs signed and official Record of Decision on Dec. 23 allows the development of up to 500 new oil and natural gas wells per year within a 1.5 million-acre area in Converse County during the 10-year life of the project.Â
The proposed multi-company projectâs initial letter of intent was filed in May 2014 by Occidental Petrol Corporation, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, Devon Energy, EOG Resources and Northwoods Energy.Â

Student enrollment declined by nearly 2,000 this fall across the state in Wyoming’s 48 school districts to 91,938 kids in grades K-12.
That is the first time enrollment has dropped under 92,000 since 2012, according to a release from the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE).
Wyoming school district enrollment dropped from 93,832 students in the 2019-20 school year to 91,938 during the 2020-21 school year, losing a total of 1,894 students statewide.
Ten districts saw an increase in enrollment while 38 saw decreases from the previous year.
The largest increases in enrollment were in Niobrara County School District #1 that saw a 76.8% increase, or 607 students; Park County School District #16 with a 75.5% increase, or 74 students; and Big Horn County School District #1 with a 68.1% increase, or 729 students.

Comparing numbers to the 2019-20 school year, Fremont County School Districts #2 (Dubois), and #38 (Arapahoe) are the only two of our 8 local districts to see increased enrollment for the 2020-21 school year.

Our two largest school districts #25 (Riverton) and #1 (Lander) saw the most significant number decrease – both well over 100 students.

CASPER, Wyo. The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) said on Monday that there are 1,894 less K-12 students enrolled across the state this school year compared with 2019-2020.
“Fall school enrollment in Wyoming’s 48 school districts dropped from 93,832 students in the 2019-20 school year to 91,938 during the 2020-21 school year – the first time enrollment has dipped below 92,000 students since 2012,” the WDE said.
The Natrona County School District is seeing the lowest enrollment since the 2012-2013 school year. NCSD is down 576 students compared to the 2019-2020 school year.
