Opponents of an immense fish farm proposed off the coast of Bird Rock and Mission Beach let members of the La Jolla Town Council know how they feel Feb. 11 as the project is undergoing environmental review.
The Pacific Ocean AquaFarms project, spearheaded by the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute and Long Beach-based investment group Pacific6 Enterprises, would produce up to 5,000 metric tons of yellowtail fish annually in federal waters about four miles offshore.

Traversing across Southern California, Freeman began photographing those experiencing homelessness, taking portraits of its myriad individuals, as a way to raise awareness and foster empathy for a growing part of the population that he says has been abandoned by society.
In the latest chapter of Freeman’s activism, the Long Beach-based photographer has released a documentary, titled “I Am Somebody,” a film that amplifies the voices of Anaheim Street’s denizens, those who take shelter under freeway overpasses and concrete buildings.
“I just want Anaheim Street to be reimagined,” the 79-year-old photographer said. “Something has got to break because it’s going to be a skid row. It’s by far the worst part of Long Beach and it’s getting worse.”
Long Beach Airport (LGB), in partnership with Hawaiian Airlines, welcomed its first COVID-19 testing site, available exclusively for the airlines’ guests traveling to the Hawaiian Islands. Starting Jan. 16, LGB will also host a testing clinic open to all airline passengers.
“This is a welcome effort to add testing capacity for the City of Long Beach in a strategically important location,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “As we look ahead in 2021, Long Beach Airport is well-poised to take advantage of an eventual increase in demand for air travel.”
Hawaiian Airlines’ drive-through lab offers $90 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests with results provided within 36 hours. The State of Hawai‘i currently exempts visitors and returning residents from quarantine if they obtain a negative pre-travel COVID-19 test result by an approved testing partner no more than 72 hours before their scheduled departure time.

The virtual tour will visit the aquarium s Tropical Pacific Gallery and the Coral Reefs: Nature s Underwater Cities exhibit
So many city-focused explorations have popped up on our screens since the spring of 2020, the sorts of virtual tours that take an at-home adventurer into handsome neighborhoods, by buildings of note, and through areas that have historic cred to spare.
It s been a way to connect with either our own urban environment, or other cities we love or would like to visit, during the stay-at-home days of the pandemic.
But what if you could venture into a city, of sorts, that wasn t built out of bricks and glass but rather coral, and sand, and the organic materials found in the Big Blue?
