According to Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia, the new initiative will provide 500 residents with $500 in guaranteed income for a year. “Our guaranteed income program will help single parents and families with direct assistance and basic needs in a community that has long struggled with poverty,” Garcia said in a statement. “The research collected from this pilot will help us build a national case for these programs across the country and our city.” So who qualifies? The participants selected for the pilot program will mostly include single-parent households that earn under the poverty line.
