(WAFF) - Any day now, nursing homes across the state of Alabama will receive a vaccine for COVID-19. The goal is to vaccinate every employee and resident in a long-term care facility. The Pharmacy Partnership for Long-Term Care Program is a federal effort in which pharmacies take care of all the logistics and bring vaccines to nursing homes. Senior Care Pharmacy in Northport, near Tuscaloosa, will vaccinate residents and workers in 70 Alabama nursing homes. Major drug stores like CVS and Walgreens will take care of the rest.

On December 28th South Carolina received 84,500 doses of the Modern vaccine, allocated to the CDC’s Long Term Care Program. The program works with CVS and Walgreens pharmacies to provide vaccines to stats’ long term care facilities. SC-DHEC has announced 2,208 new cases of COVID-19. 27.1% of the 8,139 people tested for the virus were positive. York County had 112 cases, Lancaster County had 27 and Chester County had 19.

He said his administration will move heaven and earth to accelerate the distribution and administration of the Covid vaccines once he takes office on Jan. 20. He reiterated his administration s pledge to have administered 100 million doses of vaccine by his 100th day in office. To meet that goal, Biden said, it would take ramping up five to six times the current pace to 1 million shots a day. He said his team will act more aggressively to increase administration of the shots, but even at 1 million per day, it will take months to vaccinate the majority of the population. This is going to be the greatest operational challenge we ve ever faced as a nation, he added. We re going to get it done. It s going to take a vast new effort. It s not yet underway.
