Wisconsin health officials are hopeful the majority of residents in the state s skilled nursing facilities will be vaccinated by the end of January.
WAUWATOSA, Wis. - The state of Wisconsin plans to use the Moderna coronavirus vaccine at nursing homes, with shots starting as soon as Dec. 28. Administrators at Luther Manor in Wauwatosa are planning who will get the vaccine first out of the nearly 800 residents and staff.
About 200 to 300 of them are in the skilled nursing unit, which will get the first access to a COVID-19 vaccine.

TEMPLE, Texas Baylor Scott and White in Temple already got the COVID-19 vaccine, but there is a long list of health care workers in the state s Phase 1A distribution cycle. Not everyone will get the vaccine from the same source or at the same time.
Bell County Health Immunization Program Manager Kathy Carlisle told 6 News long term care facilitates and nursing homes might be right under hospital staff in that list but many of those establishments are getting the vaccine from a state and federal partnership.

As the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are distributed in North Texas, many people wonder when it will be available in our community and will it be safe to take. Martin Koonsman, MD, chief medical officer for Methodist Health System, said in an interview televised on NBC 5 last week, “The vaccine appears to be highly effective. The safety profile of the vaccine is quite similar to what we would see with other vaccines. The side effects are quite similar and we think that this is the most effective tool that we have to date to protect our staff against COVID-19.”
Insurers, providers prepare for COVID-19 vaccine administration costs

While the federal government is covering the cost of the COVID-19 vaccine for consumers during the public health emergency, some insurers may be left to foot the bill for providers time administering the shot.
Although several insurers have said their members won t be charged for the vaccine or its administration, some providers expect to shoulder some costs as well. We greatly appreciate that the federal government is covering the cost of the vaccine, and the administration fee will be covered by individuals health insurance, so the residents and staff will not have to pay, the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living said in an emailed statement.
