A delay in shipment of a COVID-19 vaccine has thrown a stick into the spokes of the local health unit’s plans to complete its vaccinations of long-term-care and high-risk retirement homes this week.
The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit reported Monday that its promised delivery of the Moderna vaccine for this week has been delayed, grounding its mobile vaccination units for at least a week.

Susan Healey, who speaks for the health unit, said Monday the health unit had yet to receive word on when the shipments might resume.
The County of Bruce are resuming their Essential Caregiver Program at their two long term care facilities.
Starting on Friday, essential caregivers will be allowed to visit residents at Brucelea Haven in Walkerton and Gateway Haven in Wiarton subject to meeting COVID-19 guidelines.
The program was suspended on December 26th when the Province ordered a shutdown of all non-essential services.
In preparation for the return, on-site testing was done for essential caregivers on Tuesday in Walkerton and there will be one in Wiarton on Wednesday.
In a news release, the County says their long term care homes are in full compliance with the Long Term Care Homes Act and all associated regulations.

The above legislative requirements are clearly motivated by
safety concerns that arise from heightened risk of transmitting
communicable diseases to at-risk individuals. There is no
guidance (yet) from any government on whether vaccination for
COVID-19 will be added to the list of required immunizations for
such workers.
More commonly, provinces have the power to order mandatory
vaccination, at the direction of a government official or the
province s Chief Medical Officer of Health.

However, at the time of writing, most of provinces, including
Ontario, have stated that vaccination will continue to be a
