ISLAMABAD / PESHAWAR: In compliance with an order issued by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) asked service providers to unblock access to social media platform TikTok that allows users to share short video clips.
In line with the PHC judgement and provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, PTA also directed the TikTok’s management to ensure that vulgar and objectionable content is not made available to users in Pakistan.
For its part, the social media platform expressed happiness at being given another chance to continue providing entertainment to Pakistani users and said the court’s order was a “testament to TikTok’s continued commitment to enforcing our Community Guidelines to promote a safe and positive community online”.

The Peshawar High Court on Thursday said the telecommunications authority can lift a block on social media app TikTok, after government officials said the company is working with them on monitoring what they called ‘immoral’ content.
The head of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) told the court in a hearing that it was in talks with TikTok and the company had agreed to appoint a focal person to ensure content was better moderated. “When people realize the PTA will take action against them, they will no longer upload such videos,” Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan said during the hearing.
The court had taken a notice of the matter during the last hearing into a petition seeking orders for domicile restriction for admission to private medical and dental colleges in the province. APP/File
