A Supreme Court lawyer today filed a writ petition with the High Court, seeking its order for conducting a judicial inquiry into the incident of the altercation involving a physician, a magistrate, and a police officer over movement pass in Dhaka on April 18 that went viral on social media.
Md Eunus Ali Akond submitted the writ petition as a public interest litigation to the office concerned of the HC, praying to the court so it directs the government to take stern action against executive magistrate Sheikh Mamunur Rashid and law enforcers for misbehaving with BSMMU s Associate Professor Dr Sayeda Shawkat during the incident.

Supreme Court lawyer Syeda Nasrin filed the writ petition on behalf of human rights organisation Ain O Salis Kendra on Thursday.
“We mentioned the petition to the court today, and the court scheduled the hearing for Monday,” she said.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin today told the High Court that he does not know whether there is any oxygen crisis in the hospitals of the country.
Nobody has complained that there is any crisis of oxygen supply in hospitals, he told the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir during a hearing.
The bench wanted to hear his opinion on this issue when Ishrat Hasan, a Supreme Court lawyer, prayed to the court to permit her to file a writ petition seeking its directive on the government to ensure adequate supply of oxygen to hospitals by supplying to industries on a limited scale to save patients lives.
