Court of Appeal orders release of Jamaican Article by Jamaican Dean George Scott is a free man. The Barbados Court of Appeal today allowed the appeal brought by the Jamaican visitor through his attorneys Andrew Pilgrim Q.C. and Michelle Russell. Chief Justice Sir Patterson Cheltenham in handing down the ruling said Scott should be freed by the prison once all health protocols are satisfied. The 49-year-old has spent two months at HMP Dodds which a panel of Appeal judges including Madam Justice Margaret Reifer and Justice Rejendra Narine deemed to be time served. Scott had been sentenced to six months in prison by Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes last December after he was unable to pay a $6 000 fine following a guilty plea to contravening Paragraph 14 of the

New lawyers told to be prepared for changing times

Barbados Today New lawyers were today encouraged to be “flexible” in the face of an ever-changing landscape. This advice came as Chief Justice Patterson Cheltenham addressed the 16 new attorneys admitted to the BAR. Today’s ceremony came just weeks after over 30 additional lawyers were added to the list of practicing attorneys in Barbados. The Chief Justice said the theme was equally relevant to those at today’s ceremony. On that occasion, he warned them against mismanagement of client funds. In attendance at the ceremony in the Court of Appeal were Justices of the Court, Masters of the High Court, President of the Bar Association Rosalind Smith-Millar, Acting Solicitor General Donna Brathwaite, Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court Joy-Ann Clarke along with parents and guardians.
