Civil society role a must to better achieve SDGs

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The speakers at an event on Friday stressed on meaningful spaces and a conducive environment for civil society organizations to strengthen their collaborative role in the achievement of the global agenda of development.
They shared while speaking in a National Conference conducted by Blue Veins to discuss the impact of COVID-19 and restrictive environment towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a special focus on SDG 5 (gender equality).
The event was carried out under the strict COVID SOPs and government regulations and was well attended with limited participation of CSO representatives, lawyers, the business community, Line departments, and Human Rights Institutions.

Three weeks ago, in part one of this series, we observed that since 2000, The Bahamas government has enacted numerous pieces of legislation in Parliament that have eroded our offshore financial services sector.
Those developments are the results of a prolonged and sustained assault by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on our nation and other competing offshore financial centers.
We noted that the OECD and the European Union (EU) have blacklisted The Bahamas and have continually threatened to blacklist us again if we do not submit to their dictates by amending our financial laws to their satisfaction.

Woods directs the Master of Public Health program in the College of Arts & Sciences’ Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering. An assistant professor who researches topics around environmental justice, she was drawn to Sampson County, North Carolina, after attending an environmental justice conference where residents raised concerns about a major regional landfill.
