A DeKalb County teenager is dead after a shooting Saturday night in the Mt. Vernon community, according to Sheriff Nick Welden.
The sheriff s office and the Ninth Judicial Circuit District Attorney s Office are investigating the death of Gabriel Isaac Brown. He was pronounced dead at the scene on County Road 232.
In a GoFundMe page established by Brown s grandmother, Cyn Brown said the almost-20-year-old had no insurance, and leaves behind a year-and-a-half old son. She asked for assistance with funeral expenses.
No detail of the incident were available; the sheriff s office thanked the Fort Payne Police Department for its assistance in responding to the tragic situation.
An Oglethorpe County sheriff’s deputy was charged Thursday with two counts of aggravated assault after authorities said he shot at a car that fled from a traffic stop in Athens-Clarke County.
Michael Norton Davis, 35, of Colbert was fired after an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation requested by Athens-Clarke police, which had jurisdiction in the matter. No one was wounded in the shooting, police said.
Davis had worked as an Oglethorpe deputy since 2017, according to the sheriff’s office.
The GBI said Davis attempted to stop the car about 4:30 p.m. Monday for speeding on U.S. Highway 78 in Oglethorpe County. The driver, Patrouski Hodges, 27, of Athens stopped along the highway after entering Clarke County, according to the report.

A Florence man is in custody after authorities say they found more than five pounds of methamphetamine in his apartment.
Demarcus L. Robinson, 44, was arrested Tuesday and charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, according to a news release from the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation.
A search warrant was obtained after the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Region E Drug Enforcement Task Force conducted a narcotic trafficking investigation in northwest Alabama.
Northport Man Charged With Distribution of Child Pornography
A 29-year-old Northport man has been arrested and charged with the distribution of child pornography, police representatives said Tuesday afternoon.
Lt. Darren Beams, the commander of the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force, said agents from his unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the 24th Judicial Circuit District Attorney s Office executed a search warrant early Tuesday morning at a home on 18th Avenue in Northport.
