Two new IHC additional judges take oath in open air ceremony

ISLAMABAD: Two newly-appointed additional judges of the Islamabad High Court took the oath of office Wednesday.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah administered the oath to Babar Sattar and Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri in an outdoor ceremony.
Earlier this month, a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed approved the nominations which came from Justice Minallah for appointment as judges.
The legal fraternity from IHC and the district bar participated in the oath-taking ceremony.

In a statement issued after its 230th meeting, presided over by PBC Vice Chairperson Abid Saqi, the lawyers body expressed serious concern over Pakistan s volatile political situation .

President Arif Alvi on Monday approves the appointment of renowned lawyers Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri and Babar Sattar as additional judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC), said a notification issued by the law and justice ministry.
According to the notification, Tariq Jahangiri and Babar Sattar had been appointed as additional IHC judges for a period of one year. With the appointment of the two the strength of IHC judges has risen to 9, including the chief justice.

ISLAMABAD:
A parliamentary panel has approved the appointment of two renowned lawyers – Babar Sattar and Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri – as additional judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
After the appointment of Sattar and Jahangiri to the IHC, the total number of judges in the high court will become nine – just one short of its total sanctioned strength.
The eight-member Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment met on Monday at the Parliament House to deliberate on the credentials of the candidates whose nominations were earlier approved by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on December 3.
