The Customs on Thursday arrested suspended IAS officer M Sivasankar in the dollar smuggling case that came to light during the probe into the gold smuggling racket in Kerala in which he is also an accused.
The arrest of Sivasankar was recorded at a jail in Kochi, where he is lodged under judicial custody since his arrest by the Customs and the Enforcement Direcrorate in cases related to smuggling of gold through diplomatic channel, Customs sources said.

KOCHI: The Customs on Thursday arrested suspended IAS officer M Sivasankar in the dollar smuggling case that came to light during the probe into the gold smuggling racket in Kerala in which he is also an accused.
Meanwhile, the customs interrogated two people who were closely associated with Speaker Sreeramakrishnan in the dollar smuggling case. The customs team interrogated Nazar, a native of Ponnani, owner of the SIM card secretly used by the speaker and Lafeer Muhammad, a native of Ponnani, who has an educational institution in Muscat. This move by the Customs has fuelled the political controversy yet again.

Kochi (Kerala) [India], December 14 (ANI): A special PMLA court in Kochi on Monday granted the Enforcement Directorate permission to interrogate Swapna Suresh and Sarith PS for three days in connection with a money laundering case related to the Kerala gold smuggling.
A team of ED has reached Thiruvananthapuram to interrogate the two in jail.
The ED, in its plea seeking permission to question the accused, said some information related to the involvement of former principal secretary of the Kerala CMO M Sivasankar and other high-profile persons in the smuggling of gold as well as foreign currency has come to light during the custodial interrogation of Sivasankar, Sarith, and Swapna by the customs officers.
