Long-time educator, cafeteria director retiring from Judge Memorial Catholic High School Friday, Jun. 11, 2021 Intermountain Catholic SALT LAKE CITY – After 27 years, Art Holder is retiring from teaching at Judge Memorial Catholic High School. During that time, he taught World Languages, AP Human Geography, Human Geography and English Language for International Studies. From 1995 to 2015, he led an exchange program with a high school in Chemnitz, Germany. Judge students would host German students in their homes for three weeks one year and they would travel to Chemnitz to stay with those students the following year. “It was a great opportunity for Judge students to experience German culture firsthand,” he said. “It also made them realize, ‘Hey everybody doesn’t speak English.’”

The only child of Robert Jamieson and Dorothy Burrowes, Bette was raised by maternal grandparents and her aunt and uncle. She graduated from Hayward High School in the Bay Area and went on to the University of California, Berkeley. Bette became an avid civil rights activist and began cultivating her lifelong mission and calling to serve others. Bette married her high school sweetheart, Ken Vierra Sr., and they began their life as a young couple in Salt Lake City. They were eventually blessed with five children. They raised their children in both California and Utah, until they settled into their family home in the Holladay area of Salt Lake City.

Veronica Brand, longtime teacher at Utah Catholic Schools, set to retire this year Friday, May. 07, 2021 Erika Manternach Over 48 years, Veronica Brand has taught hundreds of elementary and middle-school students. She has presented lessons on social studies, language arts, science, math and music, using songs to help students memorize the Preamble to the Constitution and the Gettysburg Address. But as she prepares to retire at the end of this school year, she hopes her former students from St. Ann’s (now Kearns-St. Ann’s) and St. Francis Xavier Catholic schools recall the two most important lessons she tried to share with each of her “children.”

Bella was named as one of the winners in a new UTA contest My BeUTAHful Community Student Art Competition that invited students from Kindergarten to 12th grade to submit entries with the theme “Meet Your Neighbor.” “Through this competition we want to give young people in Utah the opportunity to self-express through public art, be a visible part of the public transportation system, bring art to riders and the communities that we serve, and to celebrate and represent Utah communities in our service,” UTA said on its website.
