California CASA the private, nonprofit organization overseeing 44 local Court Appointed Special Advocate programs throughout the state of California, along with Child Advocates of Nevada County, our local CASA program is honored that state Sen. Josh Newman, District 29, put forth the bill SCR 49, declaring May 28 as CASA Appreciation Day in California.
This is an opportunity for California to honor and thank the dedicated CASA volunteers who ensure children and youth in the foster care system have their voices heard every day. CASA Appreciation Day also gives the residents of California a chance to better understand the critical role a CASA volunteer plays in the lives of young people and inspire others to contribute their time and resources to support children in foster care. On Friday, May 28, Steve Connell, acclaimed actor and the founder of Crystal Lake s Right Center Left Production Company (RCLPC) Theatre, will be the guest on radio s It s Showtime with Rikki Lee. The program airs at 3 p.m. on Friday on 101.5 FM and streaming at www.HuntleyRadio.com.
Connell is a veteran actor, beloved by suburban Chicago audiences. Among his many credits, he has played the role of Ebenezer Scrooge at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre and at other theatres throughout the greater Chicagoland area.

The Stephenville Parks and Rec Department is offering a summer swimming league.
It is for those ages 5-18 and registration is open until June 15. Cost is $60 per participant with a $20 swimsuit add-on, if applicable.
A parents/coaches meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at the small pavilion. Practices will begin the week of June 1.
Meets are held each Saturday in June.
