Daniil Medvedev wasted little time in booking his place in the French Open fourth round for the first time on Friday, brushing aside American Reilly Opelka in straight sets.
The Russian second seed, who had lost in the first round on each of his four previous French Open appearances, won the last-32 encounter 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

Serena Williams continues her quest for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title in the French Open third round on Friday as the highest-ranked player left in her half of the draw, while Alexander Zverev cruised into the last 16 for the fourth straight year.
World number four Aryna Sabalenka, who was the highest-seeded women’s player still in the tournament, was dumped out by Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Friday’s early action. The Belarusian third seed, who has never reached a Grand Slam quarter-final, slumped to a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 defeat. The 31st-seeded Pavlyuchenkova will next face Victoria Azarenka, with a potential quarter-final against Williams up for grabs.

World number one Novak Djokovic continued his bid for a 19th Grand Slam title with a straight-sets win over Uruguay s Pablo Cuevas to reach the French Open third round on Thursday.

ROGER FEDERER BECAME entangled in a rare running dispute with a chair umpire on Thursday before safely securing his place in the French Open last 32.
Federer saw off Marin Cilic for the 10th time in 11 meetings, winning 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 but only after a second set bust-up with umpire Emmanuel Joseph.
