IRClass Review of 2020 and Outlook for 2021 – The road to revitalisation 2020 brought about an unprecedented situation in the form of the pandemic. VIBHU Vessel will transport commuters and vehicles too on board A trial run of the proposed container roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) ferry service in the Willingdon Island-Bolghatty Island corridor was held on Monday, with one of the two vessels built at the Cochin Shipyard operating in the corridor. City-based Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC), which operates a pair of ro-ro ferries in the Fort Kochi-Vypeen route, has been vested with the task of operating the two vessels, the capital cost of which was borne by the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI). The container ro-ro ferry service will transport commuters and motorists too on board, unlike a private firm that ferried container-laden lorries on the corridor till it fell out with the Cochin Port

The services that will start on National Waterway-1 will be undertaken by the wholly owned subsidiary of SCI Calcutta-registered Inland & Coastal Shipping Ltd. “We are getting into a collaboration with IWAI and we are going to start our services through our 100 per cent subsidiary Inland & Coastal Shipping. We are going to start regular service on NW1,” SCI chairman and managing director H. K. Joshi said at a virtual event organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

KSINC bets big on cruise voyages, targets ₹100-crore biz next fiscal

Against the targeted turnover of ₹50 crore in the current fiscal, the state-owned entity has clocked ₹20 crore in Q3 despite setbacks to various activities on account of the pandemic. However, the re-opening of tourism destinations will undoubtedly boost the cruise trips offered by vessels Nefertiti and Sagararani to Arabian Sea that would further mop up the revenue, said Prasanth Nair, Managing Director, KSINC. The company has recorded a profit of nearly ₹1 crore in 2019-20. The focus on tourism activities has started generating income especially with the cruises which is evident from the enthusiastic customer bookings, he said.
