Cargo traffic at 12 major ports that are under the control of the Centre dropped by 8.80 per cent to 477.75 million tonnes (MT) during April-December this fiscal compared to 523.84 MT in the same period last financial year.
The Indian government on Wednesday said 39 Indian sailors stuck in China will be brought back soon as diplomatic talks are on with the neighbouring country.
Govt approves Rs 3,000 crore project for Paradip port PTI
New Delhi: The government Wednesday said it has approved a Rs 3,000 crore project to turn Paradip Port into a world-class port by setting up a dock.
The decision to set up a western dock was taken by the Union Cabinet in its meeting held Wednesday, Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said.
“The Cabinet has approved setting up of Western dock at Paradip port at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore which will transform the port into a world-class and modern port. ….The decision has been taken with a futuristic approach as Prime Minister has been laying emphasis on development of eastern states,” Mandaviya said briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting.

NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday said 39 Indian sailors stuck in China will be brought back soon as diplomatic talks are on with the neighbouring country.
Two cargo vessels with a total of 39 Indians on board have been on anchorage in Chinese waters as they were not allowed to unload their cargo though some other ships have managed to do so. Diplomatic talks are going on for this successfully. Our seafarers will come to India soon, Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in reply to a query about sailors being stuck in China for the last seven months during Cabinet briefing.
