Another Clovis Wildcat says he ll be a Lobo

The Clovis-to-Albuquerque football pipeline keeps on flowing. On Tuesday, Clovis High linebacker Ernesto Acuña became the third Wildcat off this year’s team to commit to the University of New Mexico. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior outside linebacker joins Jaden Phillips and Jeston Webskowski as future Lobos. “I felt like it was the best fit for me,” Acuña said, adding that he’ll sign in the coming days with UNM. “(The Lobos) are going in the right direction, and I wanted to be a part of that.” ...................... Acuña, a quick and hard-hitting linebacker, had offers from Eastern New Mexico, New Mexico Military Institute and Aurora University in Illinois.

Courtesy photo Burnet High School senior defensive end Braeden Howell is celebrating a pretty impressive week as he heads into the Christmas break. On Monday, Dec. 14, he was named the defensive most valuable player at the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl in Arlington, where he had four sacks and nine tackles while only playing in a third of the contest. The game showcases some of the best high school players from across the country.

Trousdale County s Mason Basford invited to all-star game

Trousdale County’s Mason Basford has been invited to take part in the prestigious Blue-Grey All-American Bowl next week in Dallas. Basford, who just finished his senior season for the Yellow Jackets, is one of eight players from Tennessee invited to participate in the game, which will be held Monday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at AT&T Stadium, home field of the Dallas Cowboys. Overall, 39 states will be represented at the game. Basford qualified for the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl through excelling at a regional combine at Hendersonville’s Pope John Paul II and later a super combine at Canton, Ohio.
