This summer, Cosmosphere to offer free admission to military and families Special to The News The Cosmosphere will join museums nationwide in the Blue Star Museums initiative, a program that provides free admission to currently-serving U.S. military personnel and their families, this summer. The 2021 program will begin on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 15, and end on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6. Blue Star Museums is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and participating museums nationwide. “The Cosmosphere is proud to partner with our fellow museums and the National Endowment for the Arts in honoring the men and women who serve our country,” said Mimi Meredith, Cosmosphere Sr. VP of Communication and Chief Development Officer. “It is a small way to give back to them and their families.”

Military families play for free all summer at Children’s Museum Fosters Daily Democrat DOVER – Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 15 will be the start of the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire’s Military Appreciation Summer, during which all current and retired military personnel and their immediate family members are invited to play at no cost. From this Saturday through Sunday, Sept. 5, guests can simply show a military ID at the front desk of the museum to receive free admission for the military member, dependent children and spouse.  The museum’s Military Appreciation Program is made possible by Service Credit Union and is part of the larger nationwide Blue Star Museum program. ‘Mastodons of Orange County’ virtual program Times Herald-Record GRAHAMSVILLE  - Join the Time and the Valleys Museum for an on-line virtual program:  “Mastodons of Orange County” on April 11 at 2 p.m.    A large, extinct, elephant-like mammal of the Miocene to Pleistocene epochs, more than eighty mastodon remains have been recovered in New York State.  Several mastodons have been recovered in the Orange County area, the first in 1811 by American painter, soldier, scientist and naturalist Charles Willson Peale in Montgomery, Orange County.   Speaker Gary Keeton has participated in several exhumations of New York state mastodons in the local area.  Join Gary to learn about the modern recovery of these creatures that roamed the area more than 10,000 years ago.
