MSU clinician researcher to serve leadership position in Henry Ford Medical Group
Richard Leach, a national expert on in vitro fertilization and an academic researcher in the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, has been appointed chair of the Henry Ford Medical Group’s Department of Women’s Health Services. Leach will serve in a dual role and continue as chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology for MSU’s College of Human Medicine.
The appointment is notable in that it is the first announcement made since Henry Ford Health System and MSU finalized their 30-year partnership in January. As part of the alignment, Henry Ford and MSU aim to transform health care, advance medical research and address health disparities.
James W. Curran, dean of the Rollins School of Public Health, has announced his plans to step down as dean. He will continue to remain actively engaged in his position until a new dean is selected and arrives.
The search for a new dean will begin shortly. Linda McCauley, dean of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, and Paul Johnson, director of the Yerkes National Primate Research Center, will serve as co-chairs of the search committee. Education Executives, LLC, has been engaged as the search firm.
“Through his decades of dedicated and visionary leadership, Dean Curran has established the Rollins School as a powerhouse in public health,” says Emory President Gregory L. Fenves. “He has positioned Rollins faculty, students, and staff to thrive in their lives and careers, and their enormous impact on the world of health and health care is the result of his peerless talent as a leader.”

The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine ranked No. 6 among veterinary colleges nationally for National Institutes of Health research funding last year.
“The college has consistently ranked in the top 10 of veterinary colleges for over a decade,” said Jon Oatley, associate dean of research for the college. “Our success in garnering extramural research support is a reflection of the quality of basic and applied science conducted across all units that makeup our college.”
In the last three years, the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine twice ranked in the top 5 among 30 veterinary colleges for NIH funding in the United States. NIH is the largest public funder of biomedical research in the world.
