By the beginning of school next year, Terrebonne Sheriff Tim Soignet hopes to have installed traffic-enforcement cameras in school zones in the parish.
A collaboration between the sheriff’s office, parish and Blue Line Solutions hopes to increase safety in these areas, with no upfront cost or taxpayer money spent.
Blue Line Solutions is a Tennessee-based company that specializes in speed-zone enforcement. The company claims that working with other police departments in places like Georgia and Texas has reduced speeders by around 60%.
Soignet said that the money to pay for the cameras, which will eventually be placed in every school zone in the parish, will come from the collection of traffic fines.
