MANILA, May 12 (Reuters) - Philippines’ Jollibee Foods Corp said on Wednesday it posted a net profit for the second consecutive quarter, supported by international sales that have recovered to pre-pandemic levels.
The fast food giant, known for its fried ‘Chickenjoy’ and chopped hotdogs in sweet spaghetti sauce, has used its dominant position at home to pursue an aggressive overseas expansion in recent years, increasing its footprint in China and buying brands in the United States.
In a disclosure statement, Jollibee reported a 153 million pesos ($3.2 million) profit in the first quarter, reversing a 1.7 billion net loss in the same period last year, but below the 2 billion pesos it made in the fourth quarter of 2020.

The known and potential benefits of Moderna outweighed the known and potential risks, Food and Drug Administration chief Rolando Enrique Domingo said during an online forum, adding it would be administered to individuals aged 18 and above.
The Philippines expects this month the delivery of 194,000 doses of Moderna s vaccine, the seventh to be approved for emergency use in the country.

MANILA, April 20 (Reuters) - The Philippines will begin clinical trial of several drugs, including the anti-parasite medication ivermectin, in patients with COVID-19 to determine their efficacy in combatting the coronavirus, a senior government official said.
Some politicians in the Philippines have started promoting the use of ivermectin for coronavirus and given out free doses, although the country s food and drugs regulator has cautioned against the use because of a lack of evidence for the drug as a treatment.
The clinical trial for ivermectin, which could last for six months, will give us a more reliable estimate of the effects of invermectin as an anti-viral agent in mild and moderate (COVID-19) patients, science and technology minister, Fortunato Dela Pena, said in a presentation late on Monday.

MANILA, April 8 (Reuters) - Philippine health authorities suspended on Thursday the use of Astrazeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine for people below 60 years of age to investigate reports of blood clots coming from overseas.
The temporary suspension came after the European Medicines Agency recommended to include blood clots as a rare side effect of the vaccine, Food and Drug Administration chief Rolando Enrique Domingo said in a statement, adding that there were no reports of such adverse side effects in the country.
The Philippines has so far received 525,600 doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccines, about a fifth of the country’s total inventory, through the COVAX facility.
